Its been three
times in the past 10 months I have visited Dalla and every time I come to this
place there's always a new flavor in the same story of CONSERVATION.
Conservation the word in itself is very vast and its meaning more grounded. But
seeing Dalla, the village; Shiva, The Community forest; and Mangal Tharu, the
leader and the way people are dedicated to conservation is the real example of
what naturalists define conservation as "the use, management, and
protection of resources so that they are not degraded, depleted, or wasted, and
is available on a sustainable basis for use by present and future
generations".
Way to the Homestay...!!

Dalla homestay, Suryapatuwa VDC
of Bardiya is the village of the user groups from the Shiva community forest
which is a part of the Khata biological corridor. A biological corridor
represents the path connecting two protected areas from where wild animals move.
Thereby Khata corridor connects Bardiya National Park in Nepal to Katarniaghat
Wildlife Sanctuary in India. It is one of the functional biological corridors
of Nepal as Rhinos, Elephants and other wild animals are known to move between
the two trans-boundary protected areas through the Khata corridor.
However, a visit to the Dalla Homestay and a talk with the locals always leaves a smile back on your face. It really looks like a fairy tale of conservation crusaders; yet is so lively, a story so fascinating.
The story of the people-
the people who love their jungle;
the people who themselves say that their "Rhino" is their Pride;
the people who believe in keeping their place neat and clean.
The ones who agree the forests/wild animals have given them more than they could have ever imagined of and those who really are committed to conservation.
Indeed their initiatives have led them gain a lot of applause and awards and even led them to be the top-12 finalists of the BBC world challenge-2011.
There can be found so
very educated group of individuals who would always be found saying 'let change
happen; we are all-set for the change, we would accept it' but nevertheless would
they be found accepting it.
On the other hand there are such individuals, who are less educated; reside in a small village with 80% indigenous tharu community of the 105 HHs; who had been suffering a lot by wild animals some years back and now who have them as their best of friends. I would rather say Dalla of Suryapatuwa VDC, Bardiya, Mid-Western Nepal as a place where animals live in harmony with people.

Well I am
just trying to portray a tint of the whole scenario of the place; though my say
on it might be very very less indeed. But nevertheless, the village itself is a role model for what we call as conservation and I would really say one should
visit the place at least once and see / feel the happenings around. Because
seeing, feeling and analyzing by self is more important at times. And yes,
there are feelings, there are emotions and yet there is a life in harmony with
nature.
